Jack D. Janney, age 69, of Columbia City, died at 11:05 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. He was born on January 23, 1941 in Portsmouth, OH to Paul and Louella (Benson) Janney.Born and raised in Ohio, he moved to Columbia City, IN in 1965. A graduate of Portsmouth High School with the class of 1959, he attended Indiana University-Bloomington graduating with the class of 1963 with a Bachelors in Health and Physical Education. On December 18, 1963 he married Patricia Greene in Bloomington, IN. He went on to receive a Masters in Education from St. Francis University, Fort Wayne in 1972. He taught at Columbia City Joint High School from 1965-1996 where he coached football, baseball, wrestling as well as taught social studies, geography, history and was the drivers education coordinator. After retiring from teaching he worked for several years at ACE Hardware. He was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church. For over 25 years he was an active member of the Indiana High School Football Coaches Association.He is survived by his 2 daughters, Emily (Ben) Romine of Columbia City, Pam (Frank) Gatto of Riverview, FL; son, Chad (Karen) Janney of Fishers, IN; 5 grandchildren, Hayden and Tyler Janney, Madison and Hannah Schuck and Grace Romine; 3 sisters, Barbara Coriell, Polly Motter and Dinah Janney and brother, Jerry Janney. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Patricia Janney on August 7, 2006.Visitation will be on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, IN. Funeral service will take place on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. with calling one hour prior at the funeral home. Pastors Paul Arnold and Jean Ness of Columbia City United Methodist Church officiating. Memorials in memory of Mr. Janney may be made to the Whitley County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund c/o of the Whitley County Community Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.
