James W. Robbins, age 93,Columbia City, IN died suddenly at 8:50 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2007 at his home. Born on October 3, 1913 in Lee County, VA he was the son of Tipton and Margaret (Kirk) Robbins.
He attended school in Virginia and married Dovie E. Baker on April 15, 1947 in Harlan County, KY. He was a coal miner in Virginia and retired from Plastic Composites, Fort Wayne, IN.
Survivors include his wife, Dovie E. Robbins of Columbia City, IN; 1 son, Vernon J. (Shirley) Robbins of Columbia City, IN; 2 daughters, Kaye Jones of Fort Wayne, IN and Freida (Tom) Weber of Sheboygan, WI; 1 brother, Delmar Robbins,Columbia City, IN 46725; 1 sister, Velma Cooper of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Dewey and Kenneth Robbins and 14 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia city, IN. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the funeral home with DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Celebrants, Sharon Brockhaus and Eddie Beagles, officiating.
