Jean S. Langohr, age 91, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2011 at her home.Born December 8, 1920 in Fountain County, IN, she was the daughter of Grover Courtland and Oveta (Abolt) Smith.
Following her graduation from Newtown High School, she continued her education at Indiana University in Bloomington. On May 6, 1939, she married Robert Walter Langohr in Louisville, KY. She lived in California while her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following Dr. Langohr's discharge, she and her husband moved to Columbia City where Dr. Langohr opened his dental office. She retired December 31, 1987, following 20 years of service, from the office of the Whitley County Clerk.She was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church since 1945.
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Cathy (Steven) Heaston, Cindy (Edmond) Harrison and Lisa (Dean) Baker all of Columbia City; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kit Langohr, Pierceton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Langohr.
A celebration of life open house will be held Friday, December 23, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. at the home of Cindy and Ed Harrison, 4830 N SR 109, Columbia City. A private family burial will take place at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Langohr to Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice or Crooked Lake Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the open house.
