Hilma Jeanie Hively, 93, of Columbia City, passed away at 11:12 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. Born January 30, 1924 in Boynton, Mo., she was the daughter of Lowell Granville and Ivah Dale (High) Grandstaff.
Jeanies parents moved their family from Missouri to Fort Wayne when she was two years of age. In 1930 they moved to Wells County, until after she graduated from Ossian High School in 1942 when they returned to Fort Wayne. She married Junior V. Doc Hively on December 7, 1943 at the Hively family home in Thorncreek Township by Reverend Givens. In 1946 Jeanie came to Columbia City after her husband was discharged from his military service. Their first Columbia City home was on East Hanna Street until 1955 when they moved to North Walnut Street, where she has continued to reside. She was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid and expert ballroom dancer, photographer and writer.
Survivors include her sons, Michael (JoAnn) Hively, of Lakeland, Fla., Steven (Rita) Hively, Gail Hively and Barry (Robin) Hively, all of Columbia City; 11 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren; and her longtime companion, Bob Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Doc and sisters, Beatrice Bea Taylor-Stoneberg and Marjorie Marj Grandstaff-McCartney.
