Jeannie L. Byers, 65, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 at her home on Tri-Lakes. Born September 22, 1956 in Decatur, she was the daughter of John and Rita (Rumschlag) Girard.

Growing up in Decatur, she graduated from Bellmont High School with the Class of 1974. On May 20, 1983, Jeannie married David Byers and has lived at Tri-Lakes ever since. Jeannie worked as a Secretary for the Whitley Memorial Hospital Laboratory and retired from the Whitley County Planning and Building Department. She had been a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church and St. Matthew's United Methodist Church and she enjoyed serving as a high school Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. Jeannie also worked with the Tri-Lakes Property Owners Association in establishing and developing Tri Lakes Park.

Jeannie loved spending time with her family and entertaining others. She enjoyed any activities that involved the lake, gardening and canning. She will be remembered for how much she loved her family, being selfless, helpful, giving and loving.

Jeannie is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, David  Byers; step-son, Will Byers; step-daughter, Amanda (David) Miller; grandchildren, Jordan (Austin) Arick, Andrea (Draven) McIntrye, Tracie (Alejandro) Rodriquez and Justin Miller: great-grandson, Brennan; sisters, Jo Hiester, Mary (Rick) Arend, Po (Ed) Dawson and Maggie (Rod) Hawkins; brother, Johnny (Mary Kay) Girard; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Keith Hiester in July of 2021.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Matthew's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in memory to Rita Girard Music Scholarship I.C.O. Adams County Community Foundation.
