Jimmie "Jim" L. Schinbeckler

Jimmie "Jim" L. Schinbeckler, 78, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away at 7:04 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2019 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. Born December 29, 1940 at his parent's farmhouse in rural Whitley County, he was the son of James W. and M. Catherine (Gilliam) Schinbeckler.

He grew up in Jefferson Township before his parents moved into Fort Wayne. As a boy Jim loved riding his Cushman Eagle scooter around, spending summers at his grandparents' home in Laud and going hunting with his uncle. He attended Elmhurst High School and through a friend he met Patricia Ann Welsheimer. The young couple would go on to get married on August 12, 1959 in Angola. They lived in Laud and Roanoke before moving back to Jefferson Township in Whitley County.

Jim worked for 33 years at Weatherhead and retired in 1996 from Dana Weatherhead. Following retirement, he kept busy helping a friend farm. He severed on the Board of Directors at Weatherhead Credit Union for many years and was active with the Coon Hunters Club. Jim loved to coon hunt and found relaxation fishing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Schinbeckler; daughters, Kathy (Steve) Gagnon, of Claypool and Kerry (Jim) Carr, of Columbus; sons, Kim Schinbeckler and Kory Schinbeckler, both of Columbia City; foster brother, James Anderson; and 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter who he loved dearly and enjoyed teasing with each other. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Hank Workman officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Chapel (Sand Bank) Cemetery.
