Joan Geiger, age 85, of Big Lake, passed away at 3:18 pm on Sunday February 27, 2022, at her residence. Born on April 17, 1936, in Noble County she was the daughter of Benton and Lovinna (Scripter) Fruchey.
Joan grew up on the Fruchey Farm. She attended Wolf Lake High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. She then attended Ivy Tech Community College. Joan worked as a seamstress at Blue Bell, Columbia City before working at Essex Wire, Columbia City as a claims processor for 23 years until her retirement in 2000.
Joan enjoyed gardening, reading the newspaper, being on her farm, watching IU Basketball, anything that had to do with wolves, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters Lois Shatzer of Fort Wayne and Sandi Holdeman of Warsaw; grandchildren Jessica (Steve) Deskins of Ligonier, Jim (Jodi) Rose of Warsaw, Ashley Holdeman and Lindsay (Mike) Sheggrud, both of Fort Wayne; several great-grandchildren; brother Joe Fruchey of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger Geiger, sisters Arlene Briggs Rex and Jean Brown, granddaughter Stephanie Tilbury, and great-granddaughter Alexis Redhawk.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
