Bubbly, enjoyable, and full of life are just a few ways to describe Joan Hull. A few historical events that occurred in 1939 would include: the retirement of Lou Gehrig from Major League Baseball, the cost of a gallon of gas was 10 cents, and on March 19, 1939, Oliver P. and Loda D. (Jarraid) Ratcliff welcomed the birth of Joan Ratcliff in Noble County. She was the third of three children behind Jack and Alberta.
Joan attended local schools and graduated from Larwill High School, was also a cheerleader.
On July 11, 1955, she married Ronald Truman Hull and then moved to Columbia City, which remained her lifelong home. The two met as neighbors growing up, and spent the next 63 years together!
Joan worked at Dana Weatherhead, Columbia City, as an Inspector for 31 years until her retirement in 1997. She was also a member of UAW Union Local #1404 and the Dana Poineer Club.
Joan always had a great time traveling to Texas for the winter, Mexico, Florida, bus trips nearly everywhere, and spending summers at Jellystone Park. In addition she enjoyed making crafts, collecting cardinals, crocheting, doing puzzles, gardening flowers, and attending Thorncreek Bethel Church.
Joan had a vast love of dogs, country music, and watching Animal Planet or HGTV. She was probably best known for her famous line "You make your bed you lie in it"! That genuine spirit will always be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
