Jo Ellen Wood

Jo Ellen Wood, age 70, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 6:12 pm on Wednesday February 14, 2024, at her residence.  Born on March 13, 1953, in Fairbanks, Alaska, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Martha (Kruger) Williams.

Jo Ellen attended Columbia City Joint High School and graduated with the Class of 1971.  She then attended Fort Wayne Community Schools, School of Practical Nursing and graduated with the Class of 1974.

On January 12, 1973, she married Terry Duane Wood at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbia City.

Jo Ellen worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Obstetrics at Parkview Whitley Hospital for over 35 years, where she cared for two generations of families.  She had a strong love of the Lord and was a member of First Church of God since 1973.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, in addition to helping with preschool, bible studies, and the food pantry at First Church of God.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Terry Wood of Columbia City; children Crystal (Jeremy) Morris of Columbia City and Andrew (Tiffany) Wood of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren Amber (Blake) Rodgers, Mason Morris, Scarlett Wood, and Fiona Wood; great-grandchildren Carson, Harley, and Oakley; mother Martha Mae “Marty” Williams of Columbia City; siblings Peggy (Ralph) Brooke and John (Penny) Williams, both of Columbia City, Richard (Yvonne) Williams of Xenia, OH, and Linda Williams of Fort Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her father Lloyd Williams.

Friends may call on Friday February 23, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Funeral service for Jo Ellen will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday February 23, 2024, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jo Ellen may be made to DeMoney Grimes towards her final expenses, in lieu of flowers.
