John A. Enyeart

September 22, 1929 — June 10, 2019

An outgoing, people person , that liked to joke around and tell jokes, but was also quite ornery are just a few ways to describe John Enyeart.

A few historical events that occurred in 1929 included the Museum of Modern Art being created, the first Academy Awards and Oscars were handed out, inventions of Motorola's first car radio and on September 22, 1929 Frank and Effie Mae (Perry) Enyeart welcomed the birth of John A. Enyeart in South Whitley, Indiana. He was one of four children in his family.
Around Christmas time when John was a child he found a wrapped up basketball, took it out to play with, then wrapped it back up in time for Christmas!
John attended South Whitley High School and graduated with the Class of 1947. He worked at Gripco in South Whitley for 31 years until his retirement in 1989. He also worked at Diversitech, Inc. in Columbia City from 1995-1999. John was a former member of South Whitley and Columbia City Lion's Clubs and had been a BoyScout leader in South Whitley for many years. He was also an avid bowler and a huge Whitko sports fan.
John loved rooting for his favorite sports teams, I.U. Hoosier Basketball, Chicago White Sox Baseball, and Chicago Bears Football. John enjoyed spending holidays with his family and grandchildren, in addition to taking fishing trips with his buddies, working puzzle books , and eating tomatoes and pig cake. Television shows of interest included Bonanza, Little House on the Prarie, and Walker, Texas Ranger, or any John Wayne movies.
He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. John A. Enyeart, age 89, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 4:28 pm on Monday June 10, 2019 at Miller's at Oak Pointe, Columbia City.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (David) Geiger of Churubusco; step-sons, Tom (Sharon) Brockhaus and Greg (Michele) Brockhaus, both of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred Brockhaus-Enyeart, brother, Charles Enyeart, twin-sister, Mary Frances Zent, sister, Leilla Reibe, and nephew, Jeff Enyeart. Friends may call on Thursday June 13, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 pm at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services for John will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday June 14, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City.
