John G Sheets

John G. Sheets, age 62, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 7:57 am on Saturday September 5, 2020 at Parkview Randallia Hospital, Fort Wayne.  Born on November 11, 1957 in Whitley County, he was the son of Eldon “Bud” and Betty (Herron) Sheets.

A lifetime Whitley County resident, John attended Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1976.  He was a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church and Etna United Methodist Church.  On September 5, 1987 he married Karen S. Nichols in Etna.  John worked as a welder at Tennaco for 33 years.

Survivors include his wife Karen Sheets of Columbia City; daughter Tiffany Owen of Kendallville; step-son Troy (Molly) Goldner of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria (Dave) Didion of Garrett; brothers  Dewey (Annie) Sheets and Jerry (Ann) Sheets , both of Columbia City, and Harold (Blanche) Sheets of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bud Sheets.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Wednesday September 9, 2020 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. With the current Executive Order, face masks are required for attendance.

Funeral services for John will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in St. Matthew's Cemetery.
