June E. Miller

June 10, 1923 — February 16, 2020

Warm, kind, caring and devoted were just a few ways to describe June Miller. She was one of the most selfless people you could have had the pleasure of meeting. She always put her family first, had understated strength and peace. Her great smile will be missed by her family, friends and anyone that she touched over her 96 years on this earth.

The debut of the movies The Ten Commandments and Hunchback of Notre Dame were released in 1923. The year was also remembered for the first baseball game at the newly constructed Yankee Stadium, insulin was introduced for treatment of diabetes, Warner Brothers was established, and the first issue of Time Magazine was released. In technology, the world's first domestic refrigerator was sold in Sweden and the first portable radio was developed in the United States. That same year on June 10th, Ernest A. and Clara (Marsh) McKneight were pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, June E. McKneight. She was born in Connersville, Indiana and would become known as one of the "Greatest Generations" to live.

While growing up during the Great Depression in Connersville, June's family went through tough struggles. While attending Connersville High School, she found an escape in playing tennis, was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with the Class of 1941.

Her high school sweetheart, David F. Miller would be drafted into the United States Army Air Corps and first was stationed in Tampa, Florida. June rode a train to meet him there and the two would be married on September 16, 1943. Dave would return home safely and later along with their two daughters, Janet and Beth, they would make lasting memories together as a family in Connersville.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Connersville and was a 50-year member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. She and Dave enjoyed attending a wide variety of sporting events, including attending IU football and basketball games together, many Cincinnati Reds games and numerous Indy 500 races. They loved traveling together, including going to Europe and visiting the U.S. Parks out West. She enjoyed playing golf, playing Bridge, and being with friends on Brookville Lake and wintering in Florida for several years. June was an excellent cook, baker and loved having her family together for the Holidays and entertaining friends. Her cookies, yeast rolls, casseroles, spaghetti and meatballs and "cheese puffs" were just some of the family favorites.

After the passing of Dave in 2008, June moved to Oak Pointe Assisted Living in Columbia City in 2015. At 6:32 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020, June E. Miller passed away at Miller's at Oak Pointe and was reunited with her husband to continue their beautiful relationship they shared for an amazing 65 years together. She is survived by her daughters, Janet K. Patten of St. Augustine, Florida and Beth A. (Tim) Bloom of Columbia City, Indiana; grandchildren, Patrick (Jaci) Bloom of Rocky River, Ohio and Lisa (Andy) Koehler of Dunwoody, Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Benton P. Bloom, Jay V. Bloom, Andrew P. Koehler and Ryan M. Koehler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Catherine Nichols and Joan Broedling; brother, James McKneight; and son-in-law George Patten.

A gathering of family and friends will be 3-5:45 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City with a celebration of her life beginning at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Dale Cemetery in Connersville at a later date.
