Kathaleen D. “Kathi” McKinney, age 71, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 6:02 pm on Friday September 27, 2024, at her residence. Born on August 9, 1953, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Roderick A. and Dorothy (Coffelt) King, Sr.
Kathi attended Larwill High School and graduated from Pierceton High School with the Class of 1971. On April 15, 1972, she married Michael McKinney at the Columbia City United Methodist Church. She then worked at K-Mart for over 16 years.
Kathi returned later to IPFW, Fort Wayne to obtain her social service degree, then worked for Headstart, Garrett and Passages, Columbia City until her retirement.
Kathi enjoyed reading, loved her animals, traveling, and time with grandchildren, watching them ride motorcycles and lawn mowers around. She was also fond of swimming in the pond with family in her free time. In addition, Kathi was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Indiana Fever fan.
Survivors include her daughters Melissa McKinney of Pierceton and Hollie McKinney of Columbia City; grandchildren Blase McKinney, Aressa (Cody) Bays, Alex Dial, Matthew Dial, Wyatt Woods, and Olivia Woods; great-grandchildren Elijah Bays, Emmitt Bays and Lincoln Bays; brother Roderick King, II, of Columbia City; nephews Ryker and Kalvin King.
She was preceded in death by her father Roderick King, Sr., mother Dorothy King, step-mother Rhonda King, husband Michael McKinney, and brothers Terry and Gary King.
Friends may call on Thursday October 3, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral services for Kathi will be held at 10:00 am on Friday October 4, 2024, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in South Park Annex Cemetery, Columbia City.
Memorial contributions in memory of Kathi may be made to Whitley County Humane Society.
