Katherine Jean “Kathy” Ziegler, age 77, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 4:00 am on Thursday September 5, 2024, at Miller’s Oak Pointe, Columbia City. Born on October 19, 1946, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Lonnie and Onita “Jean” (Osborne) McSurley.
Kathy attended Warsaw High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. She then attended Ivy Tech Community College to obtain her EMT certification. On October 17, 1969, she married Jerry Ziegler. Kathy worked as a Whitley County EMT for several years before going to work for Dana Corporation in Quality Control, where she stayed until her retirement.
Kathy enjoyed camping, traveling, wintering in Florida, listening to music, antiquing, and her collections of hens on a nest and serpentine angels.
Survivors include her husband Jerry Ziegler of Columbia City; children Mark (Becky) Ziegler of Roann, IN and Kimberly Ziegler of Warsaw; grandchildren Emily (Tim) Cape of Greenfield, IN, Anna (Jacob) Kesselring of Louisville, KY, Nathan Ziegler of Roann, and Mackenzie (Keith) Hawn of Columbia City; great grandson Elijah Hawn; sister Mary Grace McSurley of Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lonnie and Jean McSurley.
Friends may call on Monday September 9, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral services for Kathy will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday September 10, 2024, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Memorial contributions in memory of Kathy may be made to Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
