Kathleen Alyce Hinen, 78, of Columbia City passed away at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at her residence. She was born on June 4, 1938 in Allen County, the daughter of Anthony Osmond and Marie Margaret (Roth) Mulligan.
Kathy graduated from Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1956. She married Thomas Edward Hinen on May 14, 1960 at the The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. She moved with her husband to several locations while in the military, however, Kathy has spent her lifetime in Allen and Whitley Counties. She first was employed with Lincoln National Life Insurance Company from 1956 through the early 1960s and became a homemaker and assisted on the family farm.
She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and was also a former Parish Council member. Kathy was a 50+ year member of Union Busy Belles Homemaker Club, the Whitley County Woodlands Senior Center where she was a former board member. She bowled on the Thursday Ladies Bowling League. Her hobbies beside bowling included reading, card games such as euchre and hand and foot. Also flower gardening, traveling with Senior Citizens tours and most importantly being with her family.
Survivors include her six children, Deborah K. (Josef) Steinbacher, Columbia City, Michael A. (Sally) Hinen, Columbia City, Jeffrey A. (Vicki) Hinen, Columbia City, Kurtis L. (Robyn) Hinen, Columbia City, Karen M. Hinen, Fort Wayne and Andrew J. (Paula) Hinen, Columbia City. Also 9 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas Edward Hinen, 2 sons, Douglas E. and Peter M. and her brother, Thomas John Mulligan.
Visitation will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017 at DeMoney-Grimes, A Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with a Rosary Recitation at 12:30 on Sunday. Visitation will also be held from 9-10:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 12305 Arcola Road, Fort Wayne. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment and committal services will follow at St. Patricks Cemetery, Bass Road, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given in Mrs. Hinens memory to the Whitley County Woodlands Senior Center or masses to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
