Kathleen Nelson

Kathleen Nelson, 94, of Columbia City, and formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at 10:56 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Millers at Oak Pointe. Born on April 24, 1923 in the Mediapolis, Iowa region, she was the daughter of Herm and Vivian (Marshall) Drinkall.

At a young age her father passed away after being hit by a car. Her mother would later marry Harry Martin and he help raise her. Following high school, Kathleen attended cosmetology college and was a beautician for over 50 years. She enjoyed golfing and reading. In September of 2001, she moved to Columbia City to be closer to her sons as her health declined.

Survivors include her sons, Scott (Linda) Hixson of South Whitley and Todd (Cindy) Hixson of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three parents; two husbands, Robert L. Hixson and Lloyd Nelson; daughter, Denise Metzger; granddaughter, Kimberly Tuttle; sister, Imogene Drinkall; and brothers, Ralph Drinkall, Bernie Martin and Ronald Martin.
