Kay N. (Woll) Kyler, age 90, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 4:03 pm on Sunday October 13, 2024, at Autumn Trace, Columbia City, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 16, 1933, in Jackson County, Iowa, she was the oldest of four born to Melvin H. and Evelyn M. (Peters) Woll.

Kay, along with her family moved to Thorncreek Township when she was in eighth grade. She attended Thorncreek Elementary School, then Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1951. In February of 1952, Kay married Harold F. Kyler, Jr. The couple briefly lived in Austria while Harold served in the U.S. Army before settling in Columbia City. She and Harold were very involved members of Eberhard Lutheran Church, NEO, Dancetronauts Square Dance Club, and a local euchre club for many years.

As a bookkeeper/office worker, she worked for several businesses, including Montgomery Ward, U.S. Army, Plew Tool Company, Gobbler’s Retreat, Frank’s Greenhouse, and Carriage House Flowers.

Kay was an excellent crafter. She mastered painting, quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and cross stitching, and was awarded countless ribbons. In addition, Kay’s other hobbies included traveling, cruising, fishing, gardening, baking, genealogy, and making family photo albums.

Kay was a master cake decorator and made many cakes for friends and family. She was a charter member of the Evening Bells Extension Group for over 65 years. Kay was a homemaker and received the Homemaker of the Year Award in 1966. She was a 2011 recipient of the Whitley County Chamber of Commerce Heart of Gold Award for her service at the 4-H Fair.

Kay was a 4-H Leader, member of the Red Hat Society, and since 2015 a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church. She was also very active at the Woodlands Senior Center, where she enjoyed playing euchre and enjoyed spending winters in Texas.

Kay enjoyed putting a smile on anyone’s face whenever she could in her endeavors.

Survivors include her children Diane (Bill) Clark of Hockessin, DE and Michael Kyler of Silver Lake, IN; granddaughter Stephanie (Kevin Touhey) Clark of Wilmington, DE; brothers Don (Carleen) Woll of Columbia City and Larry (Linda) Woll of Elkton, FL; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in joining the Lord, by her parents, former husband Harold F. Kyler, Jr., 2 infant sons, and brother Ronald Woll.

Friends may call on Friday October 18, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Funeral services for Kay will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday October 19, 2024, at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior to service.

Burial will follow in Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial contributions in memory of Kay may be made to Columbia City United Methodist Church or Whitley County Extension Homemaker’s Association.
