Larry David Malles, age 65, of Albion, Ind., died at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.Born on November 4, 1945 he was the son of the late Pastor Mark E. and Phyllis (Coffee) Malles.
He attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne, and in 1963 he enlisted in the US Navy.He served aboard the USS Kennebec during the Vietnam War.On August 31, 1968 he married Marcia Dick at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fort Wayne.He joined the Fort Wayne Police Department in 1968 working for 20 years before retiring in 1988.After retirement he worked for Sequent Electronics as a truck driver for 10 years.He lived the majority of his life in Fort Wayne moving to Albion in 1985.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Marcia Malles of Albion; daughter, Cathy Wesson of Vicksburg, MI, son, David Malles of Kendallville, and daughter, Rene (Jason Meredith) Malles of Bloomington, Ind.; brother, Bill (LaDonna) Malles of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Peggy (Doug) Horney of Phoenix, Ariz., Jody (Ken) Miller of Bunker Hill, Ind., Becky (Bob) LeCount, Goshen, Ind., Laurie (Stan) McCall of Tucson, Ariz.; grandson, Brian (Emily Maley) Wesson of Columbia City and granddaughter, Mindy Wesson of Indianapolis.He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Joy Malles.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 31, 2011 from 2-6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, Ind.Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Wike officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, Ind.Graveside military honors to be performed by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.Memorials in memory of Mr. Malles can be made to St. Vincent Hospital Cardio-Research Dept.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
