Laura Johnson

Laura Jane Johnson, age 58, of Garrett, IN, passed away at 7:46 pm on Wednesday March 10, 2021 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.  Born on March 21, 1962 in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of Donald and Betty Jane (Lewis) Merriman.

Laura attended Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1980.  She also attended Ravenscroft Beauty School and Ivy Tech Community College.  She earned a degree in nursing graduated with the Class of 1994.  Laura worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse and Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne for 38 years, until her retirement in 2016.  She enjoyed her dogs, fishing, camping, grilling, and gardening or anything outdoors.

Survivors include her sons Chad (Ashley) Johnson of Garrett and Kyle (Cassie) Johnson, of Columbia City; grandchildren Austyn and Grant Johnson; mother Betty Jane Merriman of Wolcottville; brothers Kevin (Dawn) Merriman of Huntertown, Danny (Julie) Merriman of Greenville, SC, and Gary (Bonnie) Merriman of Fort Wayne; companion Steve Clark of Garrett.

She was preceded in death by her father Donald Merriman and brother Kenneth Merriman.

Funeral services for Laura will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday March 17, 2021 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with calling two hours prior to service.  Face masks are required for attendance.

Burial in Bowers Cemetery, Fort Wayne, at a later date.
