Laura K. Slagal, age 59, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, in Columbia City,IN.Born on December 2, 1952 in Whitley County, IN, she was the daughter of Franklin DeWayne and Betty Jean (Harrison) Nickolson.
She is a lifelong Whitley County, IN resident.She graduated from Columbia City High School with Class of 1971.On August 9, 1974 she married Rex L. Slagal at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Columbia City.She was a dedicated wife and mother, only worked outside the home after she and her husband raised their family. Then worked 15 years at Parkview Whitley Hospital from 1986-2001 in housekeeping, laundry, supervisor and director and from 2001-2005 Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne in housekeeping.She was a member of Eagles 1906 and VFW.
Survivors include her 4 children, Ronald Lee (Connie) Slagal of Fort Wayne; Bradley Lamoine (Stephanie) Slagal of Scott Air Force Base, Belleville,IL; Sherry Lynn Brunner and Brian Ashley (Jennifer) Slagal both of Columbia City; brother, Franklin Eugene (Rita) Nickolson of Louiseville, NE; sister-in-law, Marcia Allen of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; Kristi Slagal, Brendon Slagal, Dean (Kim) Slagal, Jeff (Jessica)Slagal, Tyler Brunner, Zachary Slagal, Zane Slagal, Kirstin Slagal, Miranda Brunner and Tylor Geiger; 4 great-grandchildren.Also surviving is her companion, Robert Walters, Columbia City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rex L. Slagal, brothers, Harold DeWayne and John Harvey Nickolson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor John Cummings of Community Bible Church officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Slagal's memory to the donor's choice of charity.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Please visit
