Lavonne Irene Hobbs Galway, 86, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away peacefully of kidney failure at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. Born on March 4, 1928 in Grant County, she was the daughter of Noble D. and Dorothy O. (Long) Hobbs.
She had lived in Columbia City since 2001. Prior to her move, the majority of her life was spent in Marion. She graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1946 and Marion Business College where she studied Business.She worked at the U.S. Department of Defense for 20 years and the Veterans Hospital in Marion for 12 years in the Human Resources Department and retired in 1990. She volunteered as a Red Cross Gray Lady at Marion Senior Center and Red Cross.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Law of Big Lake, Columbia City, Sharon (Robert) Stephens of Columbia City and Barbara Galway of Huntington; son, Ronald (Vanessa) Galway of Union City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonnie Hobbs; brother, Dale Hobbs; and son-in-law, Donald Law.
A private graveside service will be held at Mississinewa Cemetery, Somerset, Ind. Memorials may be given in memory of Ms. Galway to the donor's choice of charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
