Lenville E. Gregory, 78, of Albion, Ind., passed away at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Parkview Noble Hospital. Born April 10, 1938 in Rexville, Kentucky, he was the son of Earl and Irene (Halsey) Gregory.
By the age of three, his mothers parents moved to northern Indiana and settle near Wawasee and Lenvilles parents joined them in the move. Within a few years, they bought property on West Albion Road in rural Albion. He attended Albion High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Vicenza, Italy and would earn his G.E.D. through the Army. When he was honorably discharged, he went to work at the Blue Bell jean factory in Columbia City for a few years. He had worked at various other industrial jobs including managing injection molding. During the 1980s he owned the Marathon gas station in Wolf Lake and was proud to be a handy man. He could remodel, fix or do about anything needed around a house or property and with this talent, he owned Pathfinder Services.
He was a member of the VFW in Wolf Lake. Being a guy who could fix about anything, he took pride in building his own computer. He enjoyed collecting clocks and oil lamps; reading, especially Westerns; watching Old Westerns. Lenville also enjoyed talking politics and government conspiracies, going to flee markets, auctions and swap meets. He was a very social person and never knew a stranger.
Survivors include his children, Monte Gregory, of Larwill; Marte (Tim) Bowsher, of Lafayette, Jason Gregory, of Lafayette and Amanda Gregory of Marion, Kentucky; siblings, Inez Blake of Kendallville, Norma (Linda) Gregory, of Churubusco, Betty (Gail) Winebrenner, of Albion and Brenda (Larry) Hughes, of Churubusco; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Mark Clifford Gregory; infant daughter, Ranea Rose Gregory; and three siblings.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2016 with visitation one hour prior at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. His brother-in-law, Pastor Dean Gail Winebrenner will be officiating and military honors being rendered by the U.S. Army. He will be laid to rest by his parents following the service at Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell. As a tribute to Lenville, those attending his funeral are welcome to wear a plaid or flannel shirt with blue jeans and a ball cap.
