Leona Gayle Gregg, 90, became suddenly ill at her home in Medicine Lodge, KS and passed away at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 in the Medicine Lodge Hospital Emergency Room, Medicine Lodge, KS.
She was born on September 26, 1917 in Columbia City, IN the daughter of Lyman Esta and Olive Mae (Dohms) Hawn. Mrs. Gregg was reared in Columbia and Richland Townships, Whitley County, IN. She graduated from Larwill High School with the Class of 1935. She married James Richard Gregg on April 1, 1939 in the church parsonage. She and her family moved into Columbia City, they spent about five years in the Fort Wayne area, two years in Minnesota near her parents and then returned back to Columbia City where they lived until they moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 1974. Mrs. Gregg worked as a newspaper keyboard operator and teletype operator working for the Columbia City Post and Mail Newspaper from 1954-1974. While in Arizona, she also worked for the Visiting Nurse Service of Phoenix, AZ. In June 2001, she and her late husband moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She was a member of the Scottsdale Baptist Church and Gideon Auxiliary Camp Number 90. In Medicine Lodge, she attended Community Bible Fellowship and was active in Moms in Touch and the Ladies Prayer Group.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Beverly (Thomas) Foulkrod, Medicine Lodge, KS, Laramie Niccum, Elkhart, IN and Peggy (Larry) Montgomery, Lakewood, OH; 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Richard Gregg who passed away on June 9, 2003, grandson, Donovan Miller and one sister, Fae Stafford.
Visitation will be held from 10-1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with funeral services following at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Friday with Pastor Curtiss Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Nolt Cemetery, rural Columbia City. Memorial donations may be given in Mrs. Greggs memory to Gideons International. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
