Linda E Plattner

Grateful for the little things, friendly, loving, caring, and generous with her time are just a few ways to describe Linda Plattner.  A few events that occurred in history in 1951 include the U.S. designed the Breeder Reactor which converted Uranium to Plutonium, the first commercial computer, UNIVAC, is put into use at the U.S. Census Bureau, Dennis the Menace comic strip appears in newspapers across the U.S. for the first time, and on February 3, 1951 Dallas and Marjorie (Blew) Easterday welcomed the birth of twins Linda and Stephan 14 minutes later in Fort Wayne.

She struggled to remember the names of items there were lots of thingamajigs, whatchamacallits, thingys, and doofers.  When someone dribbles food on their clothes, the family affectionately says “I Nana-ed” because Nana did that all the time.

They spent a lot of time helping their dad farm growing up.  She enjoyed spending time with family, roller skating with her cousins Kay & Sandy, and participating in Girl Scouts as a youth.

After graduating from Columbia City Joint High School in 1969, she started at Farmers Loan & Trust and worked in banking for 47 years before retiring in 2016 from People’s Federal. She enjoyed her customers and found helping people to be very rewarding.

Dick and Linda met when they were 9 & 7 respectively because their grandparents were next door neighbors.  On August 10, 1969 Linda married Richard W. Plattner at Eberhard Lutheran Church in Columbia City.

Linda took over guardianship of her brother in 1988 and worked very diligently to see his care and welfare after their mother passed.

She loved to bake, sew, read, and play games with the grandkids.  She was also active in a card club, a state competition bowling league, volunteer projects at Grace Lutheran Church, where she was also a member.

Linda’s grandchildren were her pride and joy.  Every year Dick, Linda, Brad, and Stephanie took a family vacation where they did something fun, but there was always a day of doing something educational as well.

She enjoyed making birthday cakes for her grandkids every year.  She was known for her chocolate chip cookies provided on special occasions.

Linda enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports, with her favorite team being the one they were on.  Her favorite music group was the Statler Brothers and her favorite author was Danielle Steele.  She also enjoyed watching Judge Judy, HGTV, Food Network, DIY, and Flea Market Flip.

She was very fond of ladybugs.  She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her so well.

Linda E. Plattner, age 69, of Columbia City, IN, passed away suddenly on Wednesday October 28, 2020 at her residence.

Survivors include her son Bradley (Shannon) Plattner of Avilla; grandchildren Dallas Jackson Plattner and Sarah Lynn Plattner, both of Avilla, and brother Stephan Easterday of Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 46 years Richard Plattner, daughter Stephanie Lynn Plattner.

Friends may call on Sunday November 1, 2020 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive Columbia City. With the current Executive Order, face masks are required for attendance.

Funeral services for Linda will be held at 10:00 am on Monday November 2, 2020 at the funeral home, with calling one hour prior. With limited seating, the funeral service may also be watched live on Facebook through DeMoney Grimes Live.

Burial will follow in Hope Lutheran (Union Township) Cemetery, Coesse.

Memorial contributions in memory of Linda may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Food Pantry or Whitley County Humane Society.
