LUELLA M. HAWK

October 24, 1914 — February 1, 2010

Luella M. Hawk, age 95, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 1:30 p.m. February 1, 2010 at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne, IN. Born on October 24, 1914 in Meade County, KS, she was the daughter of John Sherman and Ella May (Landis) Francis. She lived in Kansas during her formative years, from 1932-1935 she traveled with her career then moved to Fort Wayne, IN and then to her and her husbands farm in Union Township in the mid to late 1950's. She graduated from Satanta High School, Satanta, KS with the Class of 1932, Friends University, Wichita, KS for 2 years earning an associates degree in Business. On December 22, 1935, she married Theodore "Ted" M. Hawk in North West, IN. She was a homemaker and a member of the D.A.R.-Coumbia City Col. Augustin de la Balme Chapter, where she served as Regeant from 1982-1986, and the Whitley County Historical Society. A semi-professional genealogist, she completed numerous genealogy records for the D.A.R, as well as completing a listing of all the cemeteries in Whitley County. She also created and set up the school library for the former Coesse School.Survivors include her 3 daughters, Electa Jane (Vern) Hawk-Hueske of Columbia City, IN; Frances "Jackie" (Jerry) Long of Warsaw, IN; Jo Ann (James) Espich of Port Charlotte, FL; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Theodore "Ted" M. Hawk, son, E. Theodore Hawk, grandson, William Stewart Long; 4 Brothers, Carl, John, Frank, and L.E. Francis and sister, Sadie Stepp. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Arnold of Columbia City United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Union Township (Coesse) Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Hawk may be given to Heartland Hospice or the DAR. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
