Lula Maxine Zent

Lula Maxine "Max" Zent, 86, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away at 11:50 am on Sunday July 9, 2023, at Sacred Heart Village in Avilla.  Born December 14, 1936 in Huntington, she was the daughter of Willis and Mary Elizabeth (Cecil) Stephens.

She grew up in Huntington, Tennessee and the Markle area. While in High School, Lula moved to Noble County where she graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the Class of 1954.  Lula worked for Dana Corporation in Churubusco for 23 years until her retirement in 1988. Lula continued to keep busy and worked at various jobs part time, including being a cook at The Eagles, 10 Pin, The Hallway and Wonder Bar.  She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary where she was a former Madam President.  Lula loved her grandchildren, was a serious bingo player, and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her children, Ken (Ronda) Salge, Brenda Salge, Mary Lesley, Sara Stahl, Eric (Samantha) Zent, Angel Zent, and Heather Zent; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 1pm Friday, July 14, 2023 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with visitation beginning at 11 am. Pastor Matt Converse of Grace Lutheran Church will be officiating. Burial will take place at Christian Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in memory to the Whitley County Humane Society.
