M. Eleanor Boggs, 87, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 10:33 a.m. Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Harbor Assisted Living, Fort Wayne. Born on September 18, 1926 in Cleveland Township, she was the daughter of Milan Q. and Mildred Fern (Betzner) Sivits.
She has spent most of her life in Whitley County. She graduated as the Valedictorian of South Whitley High School with the Class of 1944 and in 1947 graduated from International Business College. On October 18, 1952, she married James Henry Boggs at Oak Grove United Methodist Church.They later returned to the Boggs farm in 1960 and she had lived there until 2008. She worked at Baer Field Airport from 1944-1945 and in 1946 for Dehler-Hughes in Fort Wayne.In 1972 until 1977 she worked at Whitley County Soil and Water and from 1977 till 1981, worked at Whitley County Stabilization and Conservation Service. She retired in 1994 from Whitley County Farmers Home Administration where she had been employed since 1983. She was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Happy Homemakers Extension Club, the Sewing Club and was a life long member of Weight Watchers.
She is survived by her sons, Alan C. (Jan) Boggs and Denny L. (Judy) Boggs both of Columbia City; grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Lambert, Christy (Chris) Garau, Travis (Holli)Boggs and Bree (Cody) Hardley; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Eli and Hannah Lambert, Hailey, Mya and Allie Boggs, Levi and NoraGarau and Eden Hardley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Harriet Kaufman; and a great-grandson, Ethan Lambert.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Rev. Kevin Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Boggs to Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Please visit
