Margaret Gwen Kimble

Margaret Gwen Kimble, age 77 of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 8:21 pm on Wednesday November 8, 2023, at her residence.  Born on September 22, 1946, in Springfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of Belford and Gwen (Shaffer) Shirley.

Margaret attended South Side High School and graduated with the Class of 1964.  She then attended Indiana University, Bloomington for 3 years, where she was on the swim team and tops in the butterfly stroke. Margaret also attended Purdue University for 1 year to finish earning her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.   On September 2, 1968, she married Edward Kimble in Fort Wayne.

Margaret was a full professor of Chemistry at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne for 20 years, where she taught freshman and sophomores, nurses, and other professionals chemistry.  She was also a crime lab investigator for the city of Fort Wayne for several years.

Margaret was a member of the American Chemical Society, life member of the Girl Scouts and also director of waterfront activities for several camps.  She worked with the Red Cross faithfully and drove the Red Cross van for several years.  For recreation, Margaret enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping and hiking.

Survivors include her husband Edward Kimble of Columbia City; children Jennifer (Wayne) Warf of Carmel, IN and John (Michelle) Kimble of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Jamie, Alex, and Sarah; sister Nancy Halaburda of Fort Wayne; brother-in—law Matt Kimble of Ypsilanti, MI; sister-in-law Sarah Thelan of Orchard Park, NY.

Friends may call on Monday November 13, 2023, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.

Funeral services for Margaret will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday November 14, 2023, at the funeral home.

Burial in St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Columbia City.

Memorial contributions in memory of Margaret may be made to Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana - specified for Camp Ella J. Logan.
