Marilyn Jane Messmann, age 66, of Columbia City, IN, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, October 27, 2012 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.Born September 20, 1946, in Fort Wayne, IN, she was the daughter of Virgil W. and Marie Eva (Smith) Jones.
She graduated from New Haven High School with the Class of 1964 and Ravenscroft Beauty College, Fort Wayne. On November 21, 1973 she married Dennis L. Messmann in Fort Wayne.A former Fort Wayne resident, she resided in Columbia City since November, 1981.A drapery designer for several years, she worked as a sales associate at Walmart, Columbia City, for over 20 years. She recently began to enjoy her retirement.She was a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church, actively participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and generously prepared food for Walmart and numerous other Whitley County families in their times of need. She loved camping, cooking and scrapbooking.
She is survived by her children, Kurt Messmann of Fort Wayne; Kristy (Spencer) Reinewald of New Haven; Kevin (Kathleen) Messmann of Fort Wayne; Nicole Messmann of Columbia City; Danelle (Jared) Hesting of Columbia City; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue (Bill) Lewis of Fort Wayne and Sharon (Ron) Kelley of Deep Gap, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Dennis L. Messman.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 from 2 - 7 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will immediately follow calling Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rick VanHorn officiating. Burial at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given to Marilyn Messmann Memorial Fund.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Please visit
