Martha L. Maggart

June 30, 1920 — October 17, 2016

Martha L. Maggart, 96, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away at 4:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Heritage Park, Fort Wayne. Born June 30, 1920 in Whitley County, she was the daughter of LeRoy Dexter and Lola (Gaerte) Gaylord.

A lifelong resident of Whitley County, Martha graduated from Washington Center with the Class of 1938. On March 1, 1941 she married Robert Lee Maggart at the Church of God in Columbia City. She had worked for over 20 years at Farmers Loan and Trust Company before working at Scotts and retired from C.V.S. drug store in Columbia City in the early 2000s. She also helped at Millers Merry Manor. For the past 12 years she had been a resident at Heritage Park nursing home in Ft. Wayne. She had been a member of the Oak Grove Church of God, Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards with her friends and going to watch the Cubs play baseball in Chicago.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeri (D.G.) Swoverland, of Fort Wayne; son, Steve Maggart, of Colorado; 3 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-Mother, Louis Gaylord; husband, Robert Lee Maggart;brothers, Carl, George, Robert Bud; and sisters, Betty L. Miller, Elnora (Cecil) Crawford,Hazel Marie Gaylord and Mary Nix.

Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will start 2 p.m. with Pastor Carroll McNutt officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Maggarts memory to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana or Alzheimers Association .
