MARY HULDA HYNDMAN

February 2, 1916 — May 12, 2009

Mary H. Hyndman, age 93, of Churubusco, IN passed away at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. Born on February 2, 1916 in Larwill, IN she was the daughter of Shanton and Dora (Schuman) Trachsel.She graduated from Larwill High School with the Class of 1933 and attended Hollywood Beauty College, River Rouge, MI. On October 1, 1949 she married Harold H. "Spud" Hyndman in Monon, IN. A native of Larwill, where she lived for her first 16-17 years of life, she moved to River Rouge, MI, to attend college. At the time of her marriage, she and her husband moved to Cleveland, OH until his job transferred them to South Bend, IN. They later moved to Blue Lake and Churubusco. During the winters, they resided for 20 years in Naples, FL. She owned and operated Mary's Beauty Shop, Larwill, and Orchard Lane Beauty Shop, Churubusco. A long-time member of Eel River Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Eastern Star of Larwill and Churubusco. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards with the ladies card group, gardening, especially raising roses and violets. She also enjoyed watching NBA Basketball, especially the now retired American NBA basketball player, Larry Bird.Survivors include one daughter, Dianna L. Sloffer, Churubusco, IN; grandson, Dr. Chris (Melanie) Sloffer of Ada, MI; granddaughter, Lisa (Nathan) Herber of Churubusco; great-grandson, Landon Pearson of Churubusco, IN; great-granddaughter, Mallory Pearson of Churubusco; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. "Spud" Hyndman, sisters, Florence Faurote and Anna Rollins, half sisters, Lucile Thompson and Phyllis Ward-Garber. Visitation is Friday, May, 15, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Lane Burgland of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mrs. Hyndman to the American Heart/Stroke Association or the American Diabetes Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
