Mavis Lucille Whitehead, 81, of Pierceton, Indiana passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Born October 23, 1943, in McCormick, Arkansas she was a daughter of the late William Arthur "Blackie" Peden and Nelma and Tom (Stotts) Jones.
On July 16, 1961, she married Marvin D. Whitehead. Mavis was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She was a member of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Warsaw.
Her home in Etna Troy Township for 48 years was her place of comfort. Sitting on her deck, shaded by the maple tree, sipping on tea, and enjoying the breeze was one of her favorites. Surprise visits from family and friends were welcomed and she always took the time to listen and catch up. A pan of brownies often had a home on the counter top, reflecting her enjoyment in baking; the grandkids were always greeted with some sort of sweet treat. Over the years, walks through her rolling woods provided God’s blessings through the gift of nature, fresh air, and sunshine. Mavis was a collector and we all enjoyed seeing her “finds” and hearing the story that accompanied. There was not a garage sale that she would pass and there was certainly a trinket or antique found. She also treasured traveling back to her roots of Arkansas to spend time with family. Jumping in and riding copilot was her seat; adventures to restaurants and casinos were some of the other pleasures she found.
Mavis is survived by her children, Brenda D. Myers, M. Christopher (Carolyn) Whitehead, Judy Scarlet Whitehead, T. Clark (Doris Isabel) Whitehead, and John Whitehead; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sisters, Duronda Campbell, and Amber Lattimore. Along with her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Dean Whitehead; daughter, Twinda Whitehead; infant grandson Johnathon Whitehead; and brothers, Adolph Peden, and Rudolph Peden.
