MAX E. SHECKLER

January 27, 1935 — December 12, 2011

Max Eugene Sheckler, age 75, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 8:39 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at his home.Born December 27, 1935 in Columbia City, he was the son of Marshall Luther and Nellie (Engle) Sheckler.

A lifetime Columbia City resident, he attended Columbia City High School.On March 31, 1956 he married Eunice Kincaid at the parsonage of Rev. Marion Shroyer, Columbia City.He did general farming, was an auto mechanic and punch press operator at LML Corporation, Columbia City for 40 years.He was a member of Whitley County Coon Hunter's Association.He was a knife collector, sprint car fan at local race tracks, a NASCAR fan, and he enjoyed tractors and woodcutting, but one of his true passions was playing cards with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Sheckler of Columbia City; 4 sons, Anthony E. (Gail) Sheckler of Columbia City, Marshall E. (Lana) Sheckler and Donald D. (Bonnie) Sheckler both of Albion, and Chris D. (Julia) Sheckler of Columbia City; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Betty Hill of Larwill, Dorothy (Bill) Burton of Ligonier and Joyce (John) Burton of Columbia City.He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Terry Sheckler, great granddaughter, Natalay Sheckler and brother, Robert Keith Sheckler.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Curtiss Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Stough Cemetery, Columbia City.Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Sheckler's memory to the donor's choice of charity.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
