Melvin Schaefer

Melvin H. Schaefer, 85, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, at Coventry Meadows. Born February 6, 1936, in Allen County, he was the son of Louis and Lydia (Ohnesorge) Schaefer.

He graduated from Arcola High School with the Class of 1954. On December 5, 1955, he married Helen Shepherd. Melvin was a farmer and truck driver. He was a member of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Schaefer; daughter, Lori (Michael) Johnson; sons, Randy (Sue) Schaefer and Rod (Kim) Schaefer; sister Karen (John) Phillips; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Rick Schaefer; sister, Mary Moss; and brothers, Kenneth Schaefer and Donald Schaefer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran, 6318 W California Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Bill Mueller officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 – 6:00 pm Sunday at the church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
