Patrick A. Webster

July 30, 1950 — February 8, 2017

With a life that spanned times of great change in the world around him, Patrick Webster lived life to the fullest while holding his loved ones near. He was a longtime resident of the community he loved, and with his fun-loving personality he was the sort of person everyone seemed to know. Although he accomplished so much of which to be proud, Patrick was a humble man whose greatest source of pride and joy was found in the family he shared with the love of his life. A hardworking man, he was well respected and gave everything he did his all. Life will never be the same without Patrick here, but he leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that his loved ones will proudly carry on in his footsteps.

It seems only fitting that Patricks journey began during a time that was as colorful as he was. It was the 1950s when James Dean and Marilyn Monroe became household names, and Elvis Presley took the music world by storm. Televisions were becoming part of our homes, and baseball legends Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks were an integral part of making baseball the sport we know and love today. It was just as this decade was dawning that Robert and C. Joanne (Yaste) Webster were eagerly anticipating the birth of their new baby as the heat of the summer covered the city of Huntington, Indiana, in July of 1950. The big day finally arrived on July 30th when the baby boy they named Patrick Alan drew his first breath. His earliest years were spent in Huntington while the weekends were spent at Tri-Lakes.

A student at local schools, Patrick attended Huntington High School where he played tennis, and after graduating in 1968 he went on to Indiana University. While there he was a member of the student foundation steering committee and was in charge of the bikes for the Little 500. Patrick was a member of the Sigma PI fraternity and was house treasurer. As someone who enjoyed playing ping pong, he became the intramural champion while there. Patrick also played pool and enjoyed hanging out with his buddies. He went on to graduate with a bachelors degree in accounting in 1972.

With his education behind him, Patrick was poised for greatness. He made a career in accounting, moving to several different locations at Superior Essex, first working as the plant accountant in Great Bend, Kansas, for five years, then he spent five years working in Division Cost Budgeting in Decatur, Illinois. Finally, in 1984, settling in Fort Wayne, Patrick began working in the finance department, where he remained until his retirement in 2009.

There was never anything that was more near and dear to Patricks heart than his loved ones. On June 24, 1972, he married Cynthia G. Urschel at St. Pauls Evangelical Church in Andrews, Indiana, and together they were blessed to welcome two children, Matthew and Michelle, into their hearts and home. Patrick loved spending time with his family at the lake, and holidays were always special as well. He was a show choir pit crew volunteer, a soccer coach, and supported his children in all their events and activities. Patrick was a coach, team manager, officer, and on the board of directors for the Citadel Travel Soccer Club in Fort Wayne. Pets were always an important part of Patricks life including Susie the beagle and Amos the cockatiel.

Throughout his life Patrick maintained an active lifestyle. He was an avid and very talented bowler. His high scores bowling in a series were 750, in a game 289, and on average he bowled a 199. The greatest day of his life was when Patrick was inducted to the Fort Wayne USBCBA Hall of Fame. For 40 years he promoted the sport of bowling through youth scholarships and increasing interest. Patrick was responsible for bringing the USBC state tournament to Fort Wayne on two occasions as well as bringing thousands of dollars to the Fort Wayne community. Patrick loved all things lake related, basketball, tennis, water skiing, golfing, and biking, and he was into fly fishing as well. He was an IU sports fan, a Kansas City Royals fan, and he liked the Detroit Tigers growing up. Patrick enjoyed Colts football and liked watching international USA soccer.

All who knew Patrick Webster would agree that there was no one like him. His heart was truly with his family at all times, and nothing was better than being at the lake in the summertime. Life was not without times of trial for Patrick, but he faced whatever came his way with strength and great optimism no matter what he faced. He treasured his wife, children, and grandchildren, and a friend of Patricks was a friend for life. Deeply loved, he will never be forgotten.
