Paul R. Anders, age 81, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 7:55 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008 at Miller's Merry Manor Inc., Columbia City. Born on August 27, 1926 in Columbia Township, Whitley County, IN he was the son of Roy and Mary E. (Sievers) Anders.A lifelong Whitley County resident, he graduated with the Class of 1944 from Washington Center High School. From 1944 to 1946, he proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. On April 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marjorie E. Cullimore in Columbia City. He and his wife moved to Thorncreek Township in 1953 and he has lived at his present home since 1960. A general farmer, he was one of the founders of Warsaw Wholesale Company where he has been a co-owner since 1965. His memberships included Columbia City United Methodist Church, Eagles Lodge #1906 and Elks Lodge #1914 all of Columbia City. He was also a member of Indianapolis Post #0777 American Legion. He served as a Whitley County Commissioner for 15 years and he has served on many Indiana State Commission Committees where he was President of the Association of Indiana Counties for 2 years, and one term as President of Indiana County Commissioner's Association. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Otis R. Bowen Center, the John and Hester Adams Trust Fund and for numerous years, he served on the Board of Whitley Memorial Hospital. He was a former Board of Director of Passages, Inc. and a former President of Old Settler's. Governor Frank O'Bannon presented him with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash Award also. Survivors include his daughter, Paula J. Anders of Fort Wayne, IN; sons, Gary (Mary) Anders of New Port Richey, FL and Robert Anders of Columbia City; 8 grandchildren, Kirban W. (Stacy) Wolfe, Kelly J. Hosler, Michael and Matthew Pasquale, Dana E. (Lyle) Baron, Mark Pasquale, Joseph L. and Mary Elizabeth Anders; 8 great-grandchildren, Mason Andrew Waggoner, River Kolb, Garrett Hacker, Morgan Wolfe, Jacob and Zackary Hosler, Reese Baron and Lyle Baron, Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marjorie E. Anders on December 19, 1997, grandson, Adam Kolb, and brothers, Edward Leroy and James Howard Anders.Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service is 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 with 1 hour of calling prior to service at the funeral home with Pastor Curtiss Johnson and Pastor Paul Arnold officiating. Graveside military honors will be presented by the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard with burial to follow at Eberhard Lutheran Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorial bequests may be given in memory of Mr. Anders to the American Diabetes Association or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
