Paul Arthur Schultz

September 26, 1933 — December 4, 2021

Paul Schultz was a man who enjoyed life. He had a great personality, liked to joke around, and socialize but, he had a competitive side as well. Paul was honest with his thoughts and gave his advice and he had an ornery but loving side.

After Rev. Otto C. and Edna E. (Alton) Schultz moved from Minnesota to Iowa with their six children, they would welcome one more to their family. Paul Arthur Schultz was born on September 26, 1933 in Westgate, Iowa.

While growing up in Iowa, Paul loved all sports and played football and baseball. In his sophomore year at Maynard High School, he began dating fellow classmate, Barbara Windenburg and his life would forever be changed. After graduating with the Class of 1951, Paul attended Upper Iowa University on a football scholarship.

On November 2, 1952, he and his high school sweetheart were married by Paul’s father. Paul went on to serve in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1962. He worked at various jobs in Iowa delivering milk and bread before moving his family to Janesville, Wisconsin for a job opportunity with General Motors in 1965. After 30 years with GM, Paul retired in the late 1990's. In 2015, he and Barb moved to Columbia City, Indiana to be closer to their family and were members of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.

Paul found relaxation fishing, golfing and bowling. He enjoyed playing cards and even taught his grandchildren to play. Paul and Barb enjoyed traveling and an occasional gambling trip. Growing up in Iowa and living his adult life in Wisconsin he was a fan of both the Hawkeyes and Badgers. Depending on who Paul was with or who was doing better determined who he rooted more for.

On the morning of Saturday, December 4, 2021, Paul Schultz passed away at his home with family by his side at the age of 88. He is survived by his children, Deb (Butch) Hilt of Fort Wayne, Jim (Kathy) Schultz of Janesville, WI and Connie (Jeff) Hanson of Columbia City; grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Hilt, Todd (Alvin Dela Cruz) Hilt, Christine Schultz, Amy (Kyle) Usher, Jackie (Jesse) Marden, Jason (Cyndi) Hanson, Hannah (Mike) Pakes, Seth Hanson, Cassie (Caleb) Benson and Ally (Scott) Stoffel; 16 great-grandchildren and expecting one more soon; and one great-great-grandson. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barb Schultz in 2018; great-granddaughter, Summer Hilt; sisters, Trudy, Sally and Bobbi; and brothers, Otto, Bob and Pat.
