Phyllis Jane Wolfe

Phyllis Jane Wolfe, age 88, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 9:34 pm on Thursday August 1, 2024, at The Waters, Columbia City. Born on July 26, 1936, in Columbia City, she was the daughter of Charles and Ada Marie (Lock) Van Deman.

Phyllis attended Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. She then proudly served her country in the United States Navy. While in San Diego, Phyllis received administrative and clerical training before returning to Columbia City in 1961.

Phyllis was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church. She loved butterflies, animals, and generously donated to St. Joseph's Indian School, Wounded Warrior Project, Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, and other animal organizations.

Phyllis worked as a waitress at the old 30 Club, was a seasonal tax preparer at H&R Block for several years and was also the Whitley County Assessor until her retirement in 2009.

Survivors include her children Christy Reynolds, Steven Reynolds, both of Columbia City, Kathleen (Bob McGeachy) Reynolds of Ortonville, Michigan, and Martin (Rene) Reynolds of Sandwich, Illinois; stepchildren Greg (Marsha) Reynolds, Pamela Flannary, Michael (Deb) Wolfe, and Barbara (Bob) Star, all of Columbia City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Karen Heckman of Columbia City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Peggy Charlene Adams, husbands Samuel Reynolds and Richard Wolfe, and stepson David Wolfe.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday August 8, 2024, at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with a reciting of the rosary at 1:30 pm.

Funeral services for Phyllis will be held at 10:00 am on Friday August 9, 2024, at the funeral home.

Burial in St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City, with military honors.

Memorial contributions in memory of Phyllis may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School.
