REX HAROLD HOOVER

January 24, 1933 — May 18, 2013

Rex Harold Hoover, age 80, of Churubusco, IN, passed at 10:20 am Saturday, May 18, 2013 at his home. Born on January 24, 1933 in Roanoke, he was the son of William Dale and Clarissa Mary (Harvey) Hoover.

Rex was raised in Roanoke; he graduated from Roanoke High School with the class of 1951. He was inducted into the Huntington County Sports Hall of Fame in 1978 in basketball at the P.A.L. recreation center.He served in the United States Army. On October 6, 1957 he married Kay Arlene Sam Patten in Roanoke. They lived in the South Whitley-North Manchester area for 46 years on the Hoover Family Farm. Rex retired from Krogers Warehouse in Fort Wayne in 1996 and also was a farmer.He was a member of Skyline Church, Fort Wayne and American Legion Post 777.

Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Kim Hoover of Churubusco; son, Michael A. (Michelle) Hoover of Wolcottville; three grandchildren, Andrew A. (Alicia Hyde) Knapp of Fort Wayne, Mara R. Knapp and Megan S. Vogts both of Churubusco; and his dog, Shasta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Clarissa Hoover; his wife of 53 years, Kay A. Sam Hoover; and his brother, Morris Hoover.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m.Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. Britney Sloffer officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be given in the memory of Mr. Hoover to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
