Richard D. Treesh, 89, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born March 25, 1933 in Orland, he was the son of Lawrence and Hilda (Fair) Treesh.
He graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne with the Class of 1952 and went on to attend DeVry University in Chicago. In February of 1953, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and was awarded a National Defense Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1956. On April 12, 1958, he married Joyce Pliet and a life long love story began. After the Army, Richard worked for Magnavox doing TV repairs and for over 35 years worked at Executone Inc., retiring in 1995 as a Certified Electrician.
After retiring, he and Joyce moved to Florida and then to Columbia City in 2015. He had been a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed woodworking. Richard could fix or build anything, including helping others build desks, sheds and swing sets. He loved to camp and even in retirement helped do maintenance around Indian Lakes Campground. Over the years he bowled and golfed and also found relaxation fishing,
Aside from being hardworking, Richard was a loving husband and very loving father to his two daughters; he was intelligent, giving, dependable, and there to help others. He raised his daughters to be strong independent women and encouraged others to do their best. He will be greatly missed. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Treesh; daughters, Debrah (Peggy Rebman) Treesh and Judith Lynn Treesh; sisters, Carol Treesh and Bonnie DeWitt; and brother, Gary Treesh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Hilda Treesh and brothers, Jim Treesh and LV Treesh; and brother-in-law, Lloyd DeWitt.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given in his memory to the Salvation Army or the Humane Society of Whitley County.
