Rick L. Bowling

September 15, 1959 — May 27, 2017

Rick L. Bowling, 57, of Big Lake north of Columbia City, Ind., passed away Saturday evening, May 27, 2017 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born September 15, 1959 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Lyle G. and Dolores M. (Miller) Bowling.

He graduated from Woodburn High School in 1977 and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. He grew up playing little league and went on to box throughout school and being in the military. On September 12, 1998, he married Mercy Glick after the two had been inseparable from the moment they started dating three years prior. He drove trucks for Allen Co. Co-Op/ Ag Plus and Lassus Brothers for over 20 years and for the past 3 years drove for Irving Sand and Gravel.

With a great laugh and an outgoing personality, Rick was a true friend to have. You always knew where you stood with him. He was always there for family and friends and would do whatever it took to bring a smile to your face and entertain crowds. He loved living on the lake and being surrounded by his family and friends and his cookouts will be missed. You could spot Rick on his boat or jet ski out on the lake or riding his motorcycle with family and friends. He would go to fund raisers, benefit rides, poker runs, and rallies with all of them.

Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Mercy Bowling; father, Lyle Bowling, of Columbia City; sons, Jason (Jennifer) Bowling and Jacob Bowling, both of Columbia City; brothers, Denny and Kerry Bowling, both of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Damion, Blake, and Jasmine Bowling; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and younger brother, Kevin Bowling.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in his memory to Riley Childrens Foundation. Arrangements with DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Visit www.demoneygrimes.com to send family condolences.
