Riola F. VanWey, 92, of Columbia City, Ind. passed away at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City. Born on February 27, 1922 in Mitchell, S. D., she was the daughter of Ernst F. and Stella V.(Hall) Taylor.
Besides a short period of time in South Dakota, Riloa was a lifetime resident of Whitley County. She attended Columbia City High School and on June 22, 1942, she married Robert E. VanWey. She worked for Blue Bell and was a cook at the Eagles, American Legion, and for the Masons and Rotary Club. She was a member of Eagles, American Legion, VFW and Moose.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Jagger of Columbia City; son, James S. (Barbara) VanWey of South Whitley; brother-in-law, Bill Rinebold; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Janet K. Myers; brothers, Raymond and Ronald Taylor; and sister, Ruth Rinebold.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with her funeral service starting at 11.Burial will follow at Oak Grove (Compton) Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. VanWey's memory to American Cancer Society.
