Rita Coverstone

Rita Marie  Coverstone, 82, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Arkansas Hospice Inpatient Center. Born October 22, 1938 in Berne, Indiana, she was the daughter of Leo and Linda (Burket) Velez.

She grew up in Adams County and attended local schools. On February 5, 1981, she married Ken Coverstone. Rita worked at Dekko from the late 70's until the late 80's and retired from Walker Manufacturing. After retirement, she and Ken moved to Arkansas in 1994.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Ken Coverstone; son, Hudson (Selma) Bales and Richard "Tony" Bales; daughters, Stephanie (Kevin) Day and Sheila (Alan) Garret; sisters, Norma Todaro, Joyce Tinkham, Patsie Hartman, Elizabeth (Clayton) Sanderson; brother, George Velez; eight grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters. Aside from her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond and Richard; and sister, Janice.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 and Saturday morning 9-10 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Memorial donations may be given in Rita's memory to the donor's choice.
