ROBERT A. APPLETON

September 24, 1930 — September 6, 2010

Robert A. Appleton, age 79, of Wolf Lake, Ind., died at 11:06 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010 at his residence. Born on September 24, 1930 in Lake County, Ind., he was the son of Clark and Luella (Bothwell) Appleton.
He graduated from Merrillville High School with the Class of 1948. From 1953-1955 he served in the US Army where he served in the Korean War. On November 9, 1957 he married Leila H. Wilson in Merrillville. In 1978 he moved with his family to Wolf Lake where he established the family farm, Appleton Farm, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Living Waters Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen I. Appleton and Brenda S. (Troy) Fleetwood of Kimmell, Ind., Kathy L. (Cecil) Harrison of Albion, Ind.; son, Roland A. Chip (Sara) Appleton of Kimmell, Ind.; sisters, Nancy (Ed) McDonald of Merrillville and Lois (Richard) Lewis of Crown Point, Ind.; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Leila H. Appleton on March 6, 2009 and grandson, Benjamin Ladig.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service is Friday, September 10, 2010 at 10:00 am with one hour of calling prior to service. Pastor James Haugen of Living Waters Lutheran Church, Wolf Lake, officiating. Burial will follow at Wolf Lake Cemetery, Wolf Lake, Ind. Memorials in memory of Mr. Appleton may be made to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana with envelopes available at the funeral home.
