Robert August Gallmeyer, 85, of Columbia City, Ind., passed away at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at North Ridge Village Nursing, Albion. Born April 27, 1930 in Decatur, he was the son of Conrad and Martha (Buuck) Gallmeyer.
He attended Mommouth High School in Adams County and joined the U.S. Army in 1951. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, Bob would meet a young gal while bowling, Devona H. Dee Lydy. On June 29, 1957 two were married at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Waynedale and the two would make their home at Big Lake. He retired from Allen County Motors, Fort Wayne, and volunteered at Parkview Whitley Hospital. He and his wife also were the owners of B D Bait Shop at Big Lake from 1962 until 1986.
He was a member of the Columbia City Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 246 in Albion and VFW Post 4717 in Wolf Lake. Besides bowling, Bob loved fishing with his wife, watching his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in any sporting activities they were involved with and he enjoyed watching and listening to Westerns.
Survivors include his sons, Randall (Angela) Gallmeyer of Wolcottville, Ronald (Susan) Gallmeyer, Rex (Cindy) Gallmeyer, Ryan (Kim) Gallmeyer and Rick (Regina) Gallmeyer, all of Albion; brothers, Delbert (Selma) Gallmeyer of Hoagland, Donald (Maryann) Gallmeyer of New Haven and Jerry (Bonnie) Gallmeyer of Ossian; sisters, Delores (David) Nahrwald of Woodburn and Julaine (Larry) Hockemeyer of New Haven; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2008, Dee Gallmeyer; and sister and brother-in-law, Erna (Louis) Koenemann.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Rittner officiating. Burial will follow at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery.
