Robert R. Harmon

Stubborn, big hearted, and very easygoing are just a few words to describe Bob Harmon.  Several historical events that occurred in 1946 include the development of Tupperware, AT&T announced the concept of their first car phones, and Bikinis went on sale. The baby boom also started as couples married and had children. On October 10, 1946, Harold and Anita (McCutcheon) Harmon welcomed the birth of Robert Ralph Harmon in Argos, Indiana.

He would give anything he had to help someone as kids Bob and his older brother Jim would open their bedroom window to pee, so they didn’t have to go to the outhouse.  Bob said “It was just too cold outside”.

He grew up in Fort Wayne and graduated from North Side High School with the Class of 1965. Robert served in the U.S. Army National Guard Infantry and worked as a meat cutter for Kroger and numerous other Fort Wayne meat markets, retiring in 2010. He was a member of American Legion Post #98.

Bob could be quite the jokester, but loved the simple things in life, such as being outdoors,  and watching the wildlife.  He was also an extremely family oriented man spending time with his daughter Michele, where he took her ice fishing and made her a pink tacklebox. They enjoyed Braunschweiger and cracker snacks, watching the Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team, and Sha-na-na as well.  Bob also vacationed in Wisconsin to see his brother Jim.

Two of the greatest days in Bob’s life were when he married his wife Shawnie and when his daughter Michele graduated from college.

There were many things that Bob enjoyed doing in his free time.  Several items on that list include gardening, fishing, riding his motorcycle and attending Hawg Waller and Tomahawk motorcycle events, and drinking his favorite beer, Budweiser.

Bob was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and was even a stockholder.  He loved oldies music, the History Channel, Barnwood Builders on the DIY Network, eating Geedunk, AKA Ice Cream, and getting in lots of trouble with his best friend Bill Schultz.

Bob will always be remembered in the hearts of those who loved and knew him so well, never to be forgotten.

Robert Ralph Harmon, 73, of Larwill, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at his home.

Bob is survived by his wife, Shawnie De-An Foster Harmon of Larwill; daughter, Michele Harmon of Indianapolis; step-sons Dean (Kim) Slagal and Jeffrey (Sheena) Slagal, both of Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Harmon, and son Robert Harmon Jr.

A gathering of family and friends will be 2-6 pm on Sunday July 26, 2020 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive,Columbia City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday July 27, 2020 at the funeral home.  Due to the current Executive Order face masks are required for attendance. With limited seating, the funeral service may also be watched live on Facebook through DeMoney Grimes Live. Memorial donations may be given in memory to American Cancer Society.
