Sharon J. Gharib, age 68, of Columbia City, IN died at her residence Thursday, May 14, 2009. She was born in Des Plains, IL on November 1, 1940 to Joseph H. and Lydia H. (Herzog) Melzer.She graduated from Main Township High School in Chicago, IL with the Class of 1958 then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology in 1962 from the University of Oklahoma. BOOMER SOONER!!!! She was born and raised in Des Plains, IL moving to Glenview, IL as a young teenager. She relocated to Columbia City in 1972. She was the former owner of C & S Chaparral Restaurant in Columbia City from 1981-1995 then owned and operated A Stones Throw Away in Columbia City from 1995 until her retirement in 2004.She is survived by her son, Clint (Laurie Bivona) Gharib, Atlanta, GA, daughter, Lydia (Brad) Wheeler of Columbia City, IN; 4 grandchildren, Melissa Sue, Melinda Dawn, Michelle Rene and Madaya Joe Wheeler all of Columbia City, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the funeral home with Chaplain Karen Kosberg of Parkview Home Health & Hospice officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial bequests may be given in Ms. Gharibs memory to the American Indian College Fund or the Salvation Army. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
