Shermon Gayheart

Shermon Gayheart, age 80, of Larwill, IN, passed away at 6:57 am on Wednesday March 12, 2025, at his residence. Born on February 8, 1945, in Orkney, Kentucky, he was the son of Milford and Emila (Henderson) Gayheart.

Shermon attended North Side High School. He then attended apprenticeship trade school and also proudly served his country in the United States Army. On December 19, 1965, Shermon married Geneva Runyon in Virginia.

Shermon worked as a welder for over 30 years and was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #166.

Shermon was also a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed cooking, quilting, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards, watching old westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Geneva Gayheart of Larwill; son David Gayheart of Larwill; daughter-in-law Carla Jo Gayheart of Washington, North Carolina; grandchildren Branigan Gayheart, Brittany Gayheart, and Carmin Gayheart; siblings Harmon (Linda) Gayheart, Darcus Martin, Richard (Noel) Gayheart, and Franklin Gayheart, all of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Shermon Gayheart, Jr., 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Funeral services for Shermon will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday March 18, 2025, at DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with calling two hours prior to service.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco, with military honors rendered by Whitley County Korean War Veterans.
