Tyler Patrick Smothers

April 19, 1995 — September 3, 2021

Tyler Patrick Smothers, 26, of Roanoke, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 3, 2021 at home. Born April 19, 1995 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Mark and Luann (Mathews) Smothers.

Growing up in rural Roanoke, Tyler could be found reading, drawing, being out doors, playing soccer and playing with his cousins. He played the drums in concert band and ran cross country for one year with his sister before an ankle injury kept him from going further. Tyler went on to graduate from Huntington North High School with the Class of 2013.

Following high school, Tyler took an interest in his dad's job as a charter bus driver. The two of them would also begin a trucking company, MTS and currently work together for Clarks Recycling in Huntington. With a giving heart, Tyler would do anything for anyone. He was loyal and family oriented. As his grandpa's health declined, Tyler was there to help both his grandma and his grandpa. He enjoyed shooting guns, camping with family and friends, and hanging out with his siblings.

Tyler is survived by a large loving family including his parents, Mark and Luann Smothers; grandmother, Ann Smothers; brother, Jim Bashop, sister, Jackie (Aaron) Zuercher, sister, Kelsey (DJ) Simmons, brother, Zach (Montana) Smothers and his youngest brother, Bryce (Brianna McClellan) Smothers; aunts, Karen (Dan) Sherbahn and Sharon Lay; cousins, Jennifer, Jessica, Jocelyn; seven nieces and nephews; and beloved family dog, Aeries. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don Smothers on September 1, 2021 and Bob and Nila Mathews.
