VELMA JEAN NICOLET

Velma Jean Nicolet, age 74, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2008 at The Oaks, Columbia City, IN. Born on December 1, 1934 in Whitley County, IN she was the daughter of Glen and Izetta (Coy) Cearbaugh.She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1952. In 1960, she married David W. Nicolet in Allen County, IN.A lifetime Whitley County resident, she was a homemaker. She attended Victory Christian Fellowship, North Manchester, IN. Survivors include her daughters, Gina (Ben) Knecht of Columbia City and Elaine (Brian) Balke of Silver Lake; son, Jeff (Kathy) Nicolet of Plymouth; grandchildren, Shannon and Sharmon Knecht, Krista (Ian) Vaughan and Cody (Noel) Balke; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Desirea Davis and Kalell Balke; brothers, Fred (Sharon) Cearbaugh of Columbia City and Richard (Maxine) Cearbaugh of South Whitley; sisters, Patricia (Donald) Sievers and Carol (Edward) Hull both of Columbia City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David W. Nicolet, and sister, Shirley Hull. Visitation with the family is Monday, December 8, 2008 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Pastor Tim Morbitzer will officiate. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery, Rochester, IN. Memorials may be given in Mrs. Nicolet's memory to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
